Ceramic Art

Contemporary ceramic artist Kouzou Takeuchi has gained attention both in Japan and abroad for his outstanding handmade techniques and delicate sensibility.

The “Modern Remains” series creates challenging forms in porcelain clay under the theme of “construction and destruction. He establishes a pipe-like shape with a mold and destroys the tip of the constructed form arbitrarily as his hand moves. The waveforms formed as a result of this action stand out for their artificial yet intentional constructive beauty.

On the other hand, the ceramic clay works stand out for their object-like presence, evoking iron-like massiveness, stone architecture, and ruins. He produces the [Modern Ruins/Genseki] series of works that contain the passage of time. The two styles draw us to the artist's spirit and worldview that transcends time and space.
