[Artist's Statement for The Things / Mono Series]

I love beautiful curves.
It doesn't matter if it's an object, a landscape, or a person.
Straight, powerful lines also have their charm,
but I tend to be drawn to soft, supple curves.
I feel as if a single curve can tell many stories.
I felt the same way when I first encountered a Moon Jar.
It's a rounded shape without corners, a slight asymmetry that isn't quite perfect, not showy, but with a quiet purity that seeps out.
In it, I saw a very serene beauty.
The time I spend photographing is short, but for that moment, I spend a long time with it.
I stand before the Moon Jar, gaze at it, wait, and slowly close the distance as if having a conversation.
I feel that objects, just like people, don't open up immediately.
Little by little, ever so slowly, they reveal their unique charm.
Time is needed for that.

Time for me and the object to become accustomed to each other.
I call that time 'Absolute Time'.
It's a time that cannot be rushed or skipped.
That's why even now, I prefer soft, flowing curves to hard, angular lines."  -Jonghyun Nam.

The photographed images are printed by the artist herself on Hanji, traditional Korean handmade paper with a breathing texture. Within the warmth of the paper and the expansive space, the "things" quietly begin to tell of their existence.
