About the artwork: Artist's statement

The Chair Series

My chair series began with a personal attachment to chairs.
When I once met a chair collector to photograph his collection, he asked me, "Why do you photograph chairs? Are they props for photography, or something else?"

I replied:
"Just as people have ID photos, I believe chairs can also have portraits that show the essence of their existence."

For me, a chair is not just a piece of furniture; it is an entity that has embraced human time. It quietly holds the warmth of bodies, memories, and life's traces. A chair, too, possesses its own inherent charm and beauty.

I aim to capture the unique atmosphere and presence of a chair through photography, viewing it not as a functional object but as an individual entity.
This work is not about documenting the shape of a chair, but an attempt to gaze upon the portrait of an "object" that has lived through time with people.

My most peaceful place: The Egg Chair

This egg-shaped chair is called the Egg Chair.
Designed in 1958 by Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen, it is known for its organic, body-enveloping form and is one of the iconic chairs of 20th-century modern design.

Even when placed in an open space, once you sit down, it creates a small fortress-like space just for you.
For me, this chair evokes the sense of security one feels when being held in someone's arms.

In this work, through the beautiful curves of the Egg Chair, I expressed the "most peaceful embrace" that a person can feel.
It's a tenderness that gently envelops you at the end of a tiring day.

I view the chair not merely as an "object," but as a partner that accompanies us and quietly shares time with us.
