[Artist's Statement for The Chair Series]

My chair series began with a personal attachment to chairs.
Once, when I met a chair collector to photograph his collection, he asked me, "Why do you photograph chairs? Are they props for photography, or something else?"

I replied:
"Just as people have ID photos, I believe chairs can also have portraits that show the essence of their existence."

For me, a chair is not just a piece of furniture; it is something that has witnessed human time. It quietly holds body temperature, memories, and traces of life. Chairs also possess their own inherent charm and beauty.

I see chairs not as functional objects but as beings, and I want to use photography to present their unique atmosphere and presence.
This work is not about recording the shape of a chair, but an attempt to gaze at the portrait of "something" that has lived through time with people.

Boson Chair

This chair is the Boson Chair by French designer Patrick Norguet.

It is characterized by its simple, refined form and light structure, a modern design that combines functionality and beauty.
It is an attractive chair that is minimalist yet naturally blends into the space.
Nam captures the chair as if watching over it from behind, and the artist himself prints the captured image on Hanji, a traditional Korean handmade paper with a breathing texture.
Amid the warmth of the paper and the expansive blank space, the chair's form comes into focus, quietly beginning to tell of its presence.
