About the Work

About the Work

Landscape photographs captured during the artist’s travels across Japan, drawn toward unnamed places and quiet encounters with nature. These works invite viewers to expand their own imagination.

In a world where natural disasters and unimaginable events constantly flow before us through fleeting digital images, Koshiya quietly turns to the sky, sea, and vast landscapes. Entrusting himself to nature, he reflects on the importance of calming and preparing the mind through the act of seeing.

“Now, as the world continues to shift and change, I want to keep my mind centered and my imagination open.

I hope people can feel the beautiful and sacred light within nature.”
— Yoshitaka Koshiya

About the Artist

Born in Aomori Prefecture and currently based in Kurashiki, Okayama, Yoshitaka Koshiya studied under Takeji Iwamiya, who pursued the essence of Japanese beauty through photography.

Alongside his long career in advertising photography in Tokyo (1972–2013), Koshiya has traveled throughout Japan since 2006, creating landscape photography as his lifelong artistic practice.

All prints are produced by the artist himself, distinguished by delicate, painterly tones and refined beauty.

While continuing to refine his extensive photographic archive and printing techniques, he often sets off spontaneously in his beloved Volkswagen, traveling across Japan and engaging in quiet dialogue with the landscape through photography.
