Mayu Kunihisa

Painting 2024

Canvas, acrylic paint

74.7 H x 186.5 W cm

BLACK STROKE series

Each stroke is 180-90cm in diameter. The long side is over 190cm, and the short side is over 70cm. The artist focuses on the expression of the screen that emerges from the various sizes. In the spring of 2024, he stayed in Sapa, Vietnam for drawing and sketching. He feels that he was influenced by the curves of the rice fields he saw there, the colors of everything surrounded by mist, the midsummer-like colors, and the smoky buildings he saw in Hong Kong for the first time in nine years, as well as the beautiful light gray gradations.

"Paint as if breathing." Mayu Kunihisa places herself in nature, sharpens her five senses, and everything she embodies is sublimated into her artwork. The lines form graceful arcs, and the lines and colors that dance as if welling up on the canvas are full of spirituality and dynamism that resonate with the vibrations of the artist's heart. Using a technique that utilizes arm strokes and centrifugal force as the axis, this is a two-dimensional painting expressed on a square canvas. The lines that connect as "proof" are full of spirituality and dynamism that resonate with the vibrations of the artist's heart and the work.
