[The BARBIE series]
The BARBIE series is a body of work that quietly examines dreams, memories, and the emotions we project onto objects through the iconic figure of Barbie.
[About the work] Artist's statement
The BARBIE series began to commemorate Barbie's 60th anniversary.
Deeply drawn to Barbie's slogan, "YOU CAN BE ANYTHING!", the creative process started with a re-evaluation of childhood dreams and the potential that remains in our hearts even as adults.
Starting with a collection of Barbie dolls I coincidentally came across, I view Barbie not merely as a toy but as an entity onto which dreams and memories are projected.
In this series, chairs are used as an important motif.
Miniature chairs, made to the same scale as Barbie, are arranged like a stage, creating a scene from a story within a small world.
The photographs are produced as archival pigment prints on traditional Korean Hanji paper.
Hanji, with its breathable, fibrous texture, imparts a soft warmth and vitality to the images.
This series is less a depiction of the doll itself and more a quiet record of time, memory, and the emotions we imbue in objects.
Within the frame, Barbie stands as a being that reflects our individual dreams and moments.
The designer of the LC2 is Le Corbusier, a Swiss architect who was one of the most prominent figures of the 20th century. This timeless masterpiece of modern design is a sofa unveiled in 1928 as the "Grand Confort," meaning "great comfort," a collaborative design by Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand.
