[The BARBIE Series]
The BARBIE series is a body of work that quietly contemplates dreams, memories, and the emotions we project onto objects, all through the symbolic figure of Barbie.

[About the artwork] Artist's Statement

The BARBIE series began in conjunction with Barbie's 60th anniversary.
Deeply drawn to Barbie's slogan, "YOU CAN BE ANYTHING!", I started creating this series by reflecting on the dreams I held as a child and the possibilities that remain in our hearts even as adults.

Starting with a chance encounter with a collector's Barbie doll collection, I came to see Barbie not merely as a toy, but as an entity onto which dreams and memories are projected.

In this series, I use chairs as an important motif.
Miniature chairs, made to the same scale as Barbie, are arranged like a stage, creating a scene from a story within a tiny world.

The photographs are produced as archival pigment prints on traditional Korean paper, Hanji.
Hanji, with its texture that feels as if the fibers are breathing, imbues the images with soft warmth and a sense of life.

More than depicting the dolls themselves, this series is a quiet record of time, memory, and the emotions we imbue in objects.
Within the frame, Barbie stands as a reflection of our individual dreams and moments in time.
