[The BARBIE Series]
The BARBIE series is a collection of works that quietly observes dreams, memories, and the emotions we project onto objects through the iconic figure of Barbie.
This particular piece depicts the splendid beauty of Hollywood actress Fanray, enveloped in flowers.
[Artist's statement]
The BARBIE series began in conjunction with Barbie's 60th anniversary.
Inspired by Barbie's slogan, "YOU CAN BE ANYTHING!", I started this series by re-examining the dreams I had as a child and the possibilities that remain in our hearts even as adults.
Starting with a collection of Barbie dolls I came across by chance, I view Barbie not just as a toy but as an entity onto which dreams and memories are projected.
In this series, chairs are used as a significant motif.
Miniature chairs, made to the same scale as Barbie, are arranged like a stage, creating a scene from a story within a small world.
The photographs are produced as archival pigment prints on Hanji, traditional Korean paper.
Hanji, with its breathable, fibrous texture, imbues the images with a soft warmth and a sense of life.
This series is less about capturing the dolls themselves and more a quiet record of time, memory, and the emotions we imbue into objects.
Within the frame, Barbie stands as a reflection of our individual dreams and time.
