Takahiro Yahagi, Solo Show - Imaginative Objects

June 14 Fri - June 30 Sun
11:00 - 20:00, Last Day ~ 18:00

As I stood in front of the workshop, the view was a picturesque sight of the rice fields, now filled with water after the completion of the rice planting. The afternoon sun cast a warm glow, and a gentle breeze caused the water's surface to ripple, creating a mesmerizing pattern.

My recent visit to Mr. Takahiro Yahagi's studio was just ten days before his highly anticipated solo exhibition. I was last here four years ago when the snow blanketed the landscape. This time, the vibrant green of the mountain trees, teeming with life, was a stark contrast.

Porcelain artist Takahiro Yahagi is quiet, but he is passionate and stoic when he talks.

His hand produced the porcelain clay's shapes, textures, colors, and nuances. The works of Mr. Yahagi, who applies white porcelain, black makeup, and silver paint, are as if they project the quiet flow of time in the magnificent seasonal nature of the Yamagata Murayama mountains. The exhibition will also feature objects shaped by hand twisting (tama-zukuri) rather than the usual rocro method. Chips, cracks, and distortions are all inevitable and natural. All of them are expressive and fascinating.

Please visit the gallery space, which displays SMP's original furniture.
