August 8 Thu - August 22 Thu, 2024
We are pleased to announce a new and fun exhibition in our gallery space during the summer vacation season! Kaori Onodera, a collector of American vintages, will exhibit and sell rare items she has collected at flea markets throughout the United States during her 30 years living there.
This exhibition will feature timeless rare and one-of-a-kinds items from her vast collection of textiles, tableware, interior, and fashion goods from the 1920s to the 1960s, mainly mid-century.
More than 350 handkerchiefs will be on display. The nostalgic prints, which show a glimpse of life in those days and a longing for Europe, are all lovely and make you want to collect them.
Rare items from fellow American vintage lovers who collaborate under the name Rogans will also be on display.
"We are happy to share the taste of the good old America, and we would be even happier if you could find something to take home and enjoy. Unlike new goods, old things are limited. That's why I'm so happy when I come across something I like." -
Profile: Kaori Onodera
Kaori Onodera was born in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to the United States in 1981.
While studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York from 1984, she worked as a production manager for fashion designer ANA SUI and as a display designer for ZONA, a Santa Fe-style interior design store, then as a magazine coordinator and buyer. In 2000, she opened a restaurant with her husband.
A born antique lover, she has been going to flea markets and antique shows on her days off. Over the years, she has collected handkerchiefs and miscellaneous items.
In 2006, her love of handkerchiefs led her to publish “Old Time Handkerchiefs” (Bunka Publishing Bureau) with Machiko Kayagi, introducing uniquely American printed handkerchiefs from the 1920s to the 1960s.
She returned to Japan in 2013 and currently lives in Tokyo. She holds occasional pop-ups under the name “Rogans,” which she started with fellow vintage lovers. She sells American vintage goods and fabrics she collects, as well as original accessories.
